Its a basic fact that to lose weight you need to use more then about 3500 calories then you would normally use. This means you will not be losing ten pounds every week by dieting naturally. But with a little time you can consistently lose the extra weight.
The first step in traditional weight loss is to figure out your basal metabolic rate or BMR. A person's BMR comes down to the minimum number of calories you need each day to perform basic functions like breathing and digestion. This isn't an exact measurement that is 100% accurate everyday so you may need to change the number later.
