These days one piece swimsuits are worn by women all over the world every summer at the beach, at the pool or even when they just want to get a tan. Unlike two piece swimsuits or bikinis, a one piece swimsuit covers the upper part and the lower part of the body, the belly. Some women wear it because they don't want to show off a lot of their bodies. Some shyer types also prefer to wear this style. Before introducing the bikini or the two piece bathing suits, every woman wore a one piece swimsuit. Also, men used to wear a one piece swimsuit which covered their torsos. Women's one piece swimsuits were the trend back in the '20s and stayed like that until the mid '50s, when the first two piece bathing suit was introduced.
The most commonly used women's one piece swimsuit is the tank swimsuit and the maillot which consist of a tank style swimsuit for the upper part and of high-cut legs for the lower part. There are many different styles of one piece bathing suits, such as the halter neck (which consists of a strap around the neck that supports the bathing suit in the upper part of the body), the wrap-rounds and the bandeau ones (which are more elastic and don't have any strings attached in the upper part). Another kind of women's one piece swimwear is the pretzel suit which has the string crossed around the neck, but this one piece bathing suit isn't that common.
